Dr. Amy Zenger

Dr. Amy Zenger is the first director of the Institute for Liberal Arts and an associate professor of English at the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo). She was formerly an associate professor of English and director of the Writing Center at the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Beirut, Lebanon, which she joined in 2004. Zenger held a number of positions at AUB including coordinator of the Communication Skills Program (2006-09), director of the Writing Center and Writing in the Disciplines (2011-15, since 2019), and director of Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdelaziz Alsaud Center for American Studies and Research (2016-18). Her research interests include composition pedagogy; writing center and writing across the curriculum theory and practice; critical race theory; and the relationship between visual and verbal texts.

Zenger earned her BA (in 1994, majoring in painting, drawing, and printmaking) and MA (in 1997, majoring in English) at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. She earned her PhD in English at the University of New Hampshire (2004).
